A tragic incident has occurred as a person was struck by a train on the route between Nottingham and Grantham, prompting an urgent response from emergency services who are currently on site.
As a result of this unfortunate event, travelers are being warned of significant disruptions to train services that may last for several hours. East Midlands Railway (EMR) initially reported the situation at around 12:15 PM on January 25.
The impact of this incident is being felt across several routes, particularly affecting trains heading between Nottingham and Skegness, as well as those traveling on the Liverpool to Nottingham to Norwich line.
For example, EMR confirmed that the 11:45 train service from Nottingham to Skegness, which was scheduled to arrive at 1:45 PM, was halted at Bingham station due to the ongoing situation.
In an official announcement, National Rail explained: "A person has been hit by a train between Nottingham and Grantham. While emergency services conduct their operations, all train lines in this area are currently closed."
The statement further indicated that passengers can expect potential cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes, or changes to their travel plans, including possible diversions. Disruptions are anticipated to continue until approximately 3 PM, with National Rail assuring passengers that efforts will be made to resume services on schedule as soon as it is safe to do so.
