Chelsea FC is making a bold Deadline Day move! The club is bringing back a familiar face, Mamadou Sarr, to bolster their defense. But this transfer has an intriguing twist.
Standard Sport reveals that the Senegalese center-back is London-bound to seal his return to Stamford Bridge. This comes as a surprise, as Sarr only recently completed a full 90 minutes for Strasbourg against Paris Saint-Germain, even donning the captain's armband.
Chelsea has been scouting for defensive reinforcements and was in talks with Rennes for Jeremy Jacquet, who now seems Liverpool-bound. The Blues also recalled Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, indicating their eagerness to strengthen their backline.
Sarr, who initially joined Chelsea from Strasbourg for £12 million last June, made his debut in the Club World Cup. He was then loaned back to Strasbourg, where he played under the guidance of Liam Rosenior.
The original plan was for the 20-year-old Sarr to join Chelsea's first team in the summer of 2026, ahead of the 2026/27 season. But with Rosenior now at Chelsea and eager to strengthen his defense, Sarr's return has been expedited by six months.
Sarr's recent form is impressive. He returned to Strasbourg as an AFCON champion and led his team to a commanding 4-1 victory over Lille last weekend. In a December interview, Sarr expressed his desire to play for Chelsea next season while remaining committed to Strasbourg's success this year.
And here's where it gets intriguing: Sarr praised Strasbourg's youth-focused environment, saying, "I think it is the best place to develop."
