In a recent podcast appearance, the 46-year-old model and wife of rapper Ice-T defended her decision to breastfeed her daughter Chanel until she was 6 years old, insisting, ‘It’s not a big thing.’ But here’s where it gets controversial: Austin argues that extended breastfeeding was more about emotional comfort than nutrition, stating, ‘She wasn’t relying on it for meals; she just wanted to be close to me.’
And this is the part most people miss: Austin allowed Chanel, now 9, to decide when to stop, reasoning, ‘She’s not going to be 16 and still nursing. Kids figure out when it feels strange and stop on their own.’ The practice, she claims, is far more common in Europe, where children often nurse until age 7 without raising eyebrows. ‘We Americans think it’s weird,’ she noted, ‘but it’s just a boob.’
Is this a natural extension of maternal bonding, or does it cross a line?
