The Doors' Surviving Members Perform 'Riders on the Storm' with Global Artists | Playing for Change (2026)

The Doors' iconic 'Riders on the Storm' has been reimagined, and it's a global celebration of music! John Densmore and Robby Krieger, the two remaining members of the legendary Doors, have joined forces with Playing for Change, a project that unites musicians from all corners of the globe. This time, their collaborative masterpiece is a fresh take on the haunting classic, 'Riders on the Storm.'

This isn't just a cover; it's a musical tapestry woven with diverse talents. Joining Densmore and Krieger are Lukas and Micah Nelson (sons of the country music icon Willie Nelson), Don Was, Rami Jaffee from the Foo Fighters, the Lakota Drum Group, and many others.

Densmore himself was thrilled, stating that Lukas Nelson 'filled Jim Morrison's leather pants quite well!' He also praised Rami Jaffee for channeling Ray Manzarek's piano solo, and Mark Johnson for masterminding the video.

Krieger added, 'Seeing musicians from different cultures come together around this song means a lot.'

But here's where it gets controversial... What do you think of updating such a classic song?

What is Playing for Change?

Founded in 2002, Playing for Change is a non-profit organization with a powerful mission: to connect the world through music. They've worked with over 1,000 musicians from over 50 countries, showcasing the beauty and diversity of musical expression.

Over the years, the project has attracted a galaxy of rock legends, including Bono, Keith Richards, the Doobie Brothers, Jackson Browne, Tom Morello, David Crosby, and Robbie Robertson.

In 2009, co-founder Mark Johnson explained that the project's goal was to travel the world, record musicians playing their own songs, and explore how music helps people overcome struggles. The aim is to highlight the connections we all share through music.

And this is the part most people miss... The Doors achieved so much in such a short time, leaving an indelible mark on rock music.

What are your thoughts on this collaboration? Do you think it honors the original, or does it miss the mark? Share your opinions in the comments below – I'm eager to hear what you think!
