The growth in running shoe sales isn't uniform across age groups. Teenagers (13-17) make up a small but significant portion of the market, with high school athletes driving around a quarter of the growth. However, this growth tapers off as they enter young adulthood (18-24), possibly due to changes in purchasing power and preferences. But here's where it gets interesting: the biggest growth is coming from the 25-34 age group, who contribute a substantial 40% of the growth, despite representing only 20% of the business. However, family channel retailers, where self-service is the norm, could benefit from additional signage to educate consumers on product features. This is especially relevant given that 42% of survey respondents purchased running shoes for athletic use, while a significant portion (60%) bought them for casual or social occasions.
